Rony Karam is a registered patent and trademark agent in Canada and the United States. He holds a degree in computer engineering and biotechnology from McGill. As a patent agent, he serves clients in a variety of areas including information technology, medical technology, and mechanical systems. His practice is focused on the drafting and prosecution of applications, the preparation of freedom-to-operate opinions, as well as the preparation of opinions regarding the patentability of an invention, the infringement of a patent, and the validity of a patent. He also handles trademark-related matters.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Karam was the innovation and intellectual property manager of a gaming company. He was responsible for all matters related to intellectual property, including the mitigation of risk as well as the identification, protection, and monetization of assets. He was also in charge of compliance with rules and regulations specific to the mobile gaming industry. At the gaming company, he developed an expertise in procuring patent protection for inventions related to mobile applications, social media, and the Internet of things. He also played a key role in the negotiation of several agreements involving inventions and trademarks.

Mr. Karam was previously the patent and government relations manager of a software company. He was responsible for protecting inventions and securing government funding for research and development projects. At the software company, he developed an expertise in procuring patent protection for inventions related to artificial intelligence, human-computer interfaces, and image processing. He also acquired significant experience in aligning patent strategies with business objectives to build an effective portfolio.

In addition to being a registered patent and trademark agent in Canada and the United States, Mr. Karam is a professional engineer before the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, an associate member of the Institute of Intellectual Property of Canada, a member of the International Trademark Association, and a Certified Licensing Professional before the Licensing Executives Society. He practices in both official languages, namely English and French, and is conversant in Spanish, Italian, and Arabic.
